Giovannini Winery
Our exciting mission is to enable discerning consumers to discover or rediscover the deep winemaking tradition of the Giovannini Family, characterized by unmistakable traditional values expressed with a modern style
Timeline
"Our father Corrado purchases the farm in the municipality of Narni with approximately 60 hectares of land cultivated with cereals, vineyard, and a small olive grove
“IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH YOU DO, BUT HOW MUCH PASSION YOU PUT INTO WHAT YOU DO.
The renovation work on the various buildings is completed, and the agritourism activity of the educational farm "La Collina Incantata" is launched, offering accommodation, dining, and the production of Giovannini Winery begins. With pride for the work accomplished, the first harvest of Ciliegiolo is bottled
INNOVATION IN TRADITION: one sentence to encapsulate the story of the CILIEGIOLO 2.0 project. A story born from the great joint efforts of agricultural companies and research institutions with a common goal: to breathe new life into Ciliegiolo, surpassing its original characteristics as a 'ready-to-drink' wine and endowing it with qualities that can endure over time. A project driven by love for the land and its treasures, fueled by curiosity and a desire to experiment.
In 2020, the production of Giovannini Winery expanded to include sparkling wines, the 'Incanto' made from Chardonnay grapes and the 'Summa' made from Ciliegiolo grapes, completing the range of offerings. The elegance of the bubbles illuminates the most important occasions, the special events. 'Incanto' and 'Summa' immediately create the charm of celebration. Yet, our sparkling wines are also a ritual to be enjoyed every day, in the excitement of transforming an evening into a unique and special moment.
To fill a gap in the market for quality wines from the gentle hills of Narni and to showcase the excellence and consistency of internationally grown varieties in the cool central regions, CORRADO is bottled with enthusiasm. The grapes are carefully selected at dawn to preserve the fruit's fragrance. It is then clarified at low temperatures and initiated for fermentation. The wine is aged for six months in oak barrels. The result is a creamy and structured Chardonnay
This spring, we enrich our range of products, where a high-quality, single-varietal Merlot could not be missing. It is the result of a selection of grapes from a specific plot with unique characteristics, paying homage to the fourth generation of the Giovannini family
The story of wine
Every wine tells us a story. First and foremost, it’s the story of its origins, the places where it was born, the lands that nurtured it, and the people who produced it. The soils and climate have proven particularly favorable on the gentle hills, where fertility, proper slope, and excellent sun exposure allow for low grape yields to produce quality wines. As soon as the grapes are fermented, they become wine to be jealously guarded in the vats, awaiting their maturity. Here too, nature demands our patience, care, and special attention to wisely preserve what it has given us. Once ready and brought to the table, each wine claims its individuality, wanting to tell its own story! Firstly, the parentage of the grape variety: Ciliegiolo, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. Each with distinct characteristics, rarely blended together according to the tradition that favors the purity of the grape varieties
The vineyard that I want to tell you about extends over the hills of Narni, under the majestic Albornoz Fortress of 1367, which overlooks the town and the Nera River valley. From these lands, which have inspired the Chronicles of Narnia and have been defined as the Primordial Chaos, the Ciliegiolo is born.
The grapes are harvested in the ninth month of the year, the last month of summer and the first of autumn, the month of the autumn equinox, where the daylight is equal to the darkness of the night, and all of this is not a coincidence.
The wine, with its extremely brilliant garnet color, immediately exhibits richness and alcohol content. The first aromas perceived on the nose are of ripe fruit and spirits, such as cherry and plum, followed, in succession, by tobacco and licorice. On the palate, it is warm, strong, and energetic, yet at the same time delicate with a significant alcoholic note. An ideal synthesis of power and control. The tannins are refined and silky, concluding with a sweet note of ripe fruit
The wines
From this grape variety, the Rosato di Ciliegiolo, the sparkling Rossato di Ciliegiolo, and the Passito are born.
The rosé variation of the Italian nectar of Bacchus, especially when it comes to sparkling wines, Summa sparkling Ciliegiolo is a conscious choice rather than succumbing to the trend of the moment. On a visual examination, it seduces and flatters with intriguing colors and aromas. As a niche product, it has literally been exploding in recent years, like the cork that releases its complex and gentle bouquet, typical of bottle fermentation. Thanks to its delicacy, it is an extremely versatile sparkling wine that can easily accompany a meal from aperitif to after-dinner. In particular, it pairs well with spicy cured meats from Norcineria.
The Passito di Ciliegiolo is an intensely fragrant dessert wine. It opens with notes of ripe red fruit, cherry liqueur, and hints of sweet spices, pepper, and vanilla. On the palate, it is warm, soft, enveloping, with sweet notes and intense flavors. The finish is persistent, with hints of cherry liqueur, blueberry, plum, and spices. The grapes are harvested in the first days of September and left to dry in the fruit-drying room for three months. They are then pressed and fermented with the skins until halfway through fermentation. We age it in oak barrels for one year.
Chardonnay, the most widely grown grape variety, is a myth, but for us, it represents opulence and elegance. As a base wine, it is fresh and aromatic, rich in mineral and earthy hints. When aged in oak barrels like our Corrado, it brings out mature, honeyed, and buttery notes. Harvested in August, as we do for the sparkling wine L’Incanto, a name that couldn’t be closer to reality, it shines with golden hues, fine and persistent perlage, a complex and elegant aroma, and pleasant aromatic nuances. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, aromatic, and has good persistence.
